I had no clue what I was getting into with this book and it blew me away. I would have devoured this as a teen and been fully obsessed. This really worked for me!

Lacked emotional depth and the voice felt younger than it should have.

I loved the twists and turns while building to a very satisfying and unexpected conclusion. Laura is able to portray the complexity of teenage emotions. Loved it!

This book is about Drew who has to keep her family intact after her mom has disappeared. I suspected this book to be a thriller but honestly it’s a dark humor type of read. Totally not what I expected but I enjoyed the story. Zimmermann is a good writer but I did have some issues with the pacing and as great of the story was, some things did not add up. There were some good twists and turns which kept me entertained in the story. I enjoyed reading Drew’s story and thought her character was very well written. She developed in the story which I enjoyed. There are quite a few side characters to keep up with the suspense and the family bonding between the siblings was great. This was a great entertaining story that I did not expect and kind of gave me the same vibe of Missing but except much of the thriller part.

*this book was sent to me by the publisher to give an honest review in return*

(free review copy) Damn, Laura Zimmerman has done it AGAIN! I absolutely adored her last book, [b:My Eyes Are Up Here|44156894|My Eyes Are Up Here|Laura Zimmermann|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1571077347l/44156894._SY75_.jpg|68676984], and was ecstatic to get an email alerting me to this latest release. I'm a lifelong Wisconsin girl, with most of my formative years spent in the northern part of the state, so I was predisposed to love this, BUT oh my goodness I would have adored it regardless! It's so real, hilarious, poignant, and intensely smart ~ any snarky teen with too many responsibilities will absolutely eat this up.

Librarian note: the protagonist in this book is a senior in high school. There is on-the-page alcohol use, illegal activities, and discussion of sex.

This is a snappy, fast read, peppered with dark humor and a great understand of fucked up family dynamics. Drew is 17-almost-18 and basically the parent of her two younger siblings. Things get very complicated for her through this book and she juggles it all with a cool head and a dry awareness that she shouldn't have to that's refreshing after so many books of teens who seem to be completely unaware being parentified is damaging and awful. The author writes almost like poetry, with an amazing grasp on how to end paragraphs and chapters with sentences that feel like gut punches or perfect punchlines, or both. I flew through this book. A great read.
