This feels like blasphemy but the movie was better in almost every way. A few elements of Cruella and her cat were quite cool. Perhaps it's a sign of the time when it was written but I didn't appreciate how condescending Pongo was to Mrs. Pongo.

Yes, it's a children's book, yes i'm 18 and I liked it. I really liked the way the dogs think and thought of their owners as "pets" (which makes us really reflect of who's on who's hands).
I liked the way the dog community all worked together to help this dogs escape and be safe and well fed.
The villain, Cruella de Vil, is terrific, I love her; however, I wished we could have more of a background story of her.

The kids and I listened to this on tape in the car over the last few weeks. I loved the relationship between Mrs & Pongo and it often spurred discussion between the four of us!
So well written.

A delightful read that closely mirrors the Disney adaptation. Strong characterization and lovely illustrations. A fun read!

My seven year old and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this after watching the Disney adaptation. It was fun to see the way Disney changed things and to read all the little details that had to be left out. For those of us with a feminist bent, there were a few cringe-worthy sentences, but my seven year old didn't pick them up, although I did have to explain about why it caused such a stir for one female character to appear in trousers. It would be an excellent opportunity to discuss, with an older child, how society has shifted since the writing of the book, and how it is the same in many ways.

I can't believe I got to the age of 24 before I read The Hundred and One Dalmatians. I found it to be a lovely read, I knew the general story from when I saw the movie when I was younger. I loved the illustrations from Alex Smith, they were so delightful. I thought that the story would have aged quite a bit and I might find it a bit slow but that wasn't the case (expect for the fact that Pongo and Missis's 'pets' had nannies - a concept that is a bit strange for fully grown adults now).

Highly recommend this edition - a bunch of fun!
