The plot has certainly picked up the pace but, twelve issues in, I just can't ignore one glaring fact anymore. Our protagonist is... an idiot. I mean, a straight-up doofus. I get that he's a student and he's supposed to be immature but Tim just comes off as dumb. Warned many times not to use magic nilly-willy? Keeps using it. Told not to show off magic to others? Shows off several times. Sees his long-gone mom is somehow back with a very shaky explanation and clearly unmomlike (and just plain freaky) behavior? Accepts her and blindly trusts everything she does.

I'm sorry, I get that we're trying to keep him unlikeable but that's accomplished better by the turn at the end of this volume. It's accomplished by having him be an arrogant pompous prick. But all of his other actions are just... Does he have brain damage? Is that the twist?
