This was really cute!! There is one thing I thought it was missing at least in the beginning and that is the pictures that Paul was drawing. They showed pictures throughout the book except for the beginning and I felt like I was missing out. One thing that annoyed me was when Hildy's friends kept on going "oh! I thought you were asexual because you aren't in a relationship!" that's not how that works. But ANYWAYS this was a pretty cute read although I felt like something was missing.

This is an adorable meet-cute based on a real psych study that author Vicki Grant was intrigued by, enough to imagine a few characters to go through it. Basically, Betty and Bob (not their real names) are test subjects in an experiment to see if certain kinds of get-to-know-you questions can bond people. For our main characters, Hildy and Paul, the questions were a rocky start, with both people coming to the study for different reasons and with problems in their past that they don't want to talk about. But the questions will dictate their discussion. It was a fast read and I enjoyed it; the repartee was quippy and witty. My biggest beef is that attending high school, much less doing all the things related to a senior year in high school, seems like an after thought for Hildy, and the author by extension. She leaves lunch one day to go do stuff and... there are strangers on campus, just randomly showing up. Those things were weird. But if I thought of Hildy as being a new adult, rather than a high school senior, things made more sense.

This book was a very cute YA read. The plot had a lot of room for deep character development, especially through the use of questions, that I felt weren't truly brought to life. I also feel that at points it felt very rushed and the ending was lackluster. However, it was a cute read and light.

I wanted to like this book so much. I've taken multiple psychology classes and have heard of studies like the one mentioned in this book, so I was excited to read it. I think it would have had potential if not for the chat dialogue format.

Most of the book (at least, the part that I read) was like this:

Stereotypical Character #1: I'm really excited about this study.
Stereotypical Character #2: I'm not and I'm really just a jerk but (oh wait) after this study we will magically fall in love with each other anyway.

Nope nope nope nope. I've seen it all before. SOMETIMES MEAN JERKS ARE REALLY JUST MEAN JERKS. Why do these authors keep trying to pair cute, sweet girls with complete douche bags?? It doesn't make logical sense.

Could not continue, not worth the frustration.

Thank you to Netgalley for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book a cute, quick, easy read. The multiple methods of writing dialogue were fun. The characters totally relatable. Sure, could there have been more character development? Maybe, but I don't think the purpose of this book was to get too deep. It just barely scratched the surface, but I think I am ok with that. This book was about the questions, the experiment, and the classic YA romance aspect.
