I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This was exactly the kind of story I have been looking for. A BDSM story of a Dom helping a sub overcome his issues and finding his submissive self. The connection between Sam and Ryan was perfect. I loved how Sam wouldn't let things go with Ryan. He asserted his dominance when Ryan needed it, even when he was being a pain in the ass. The way he took care of him and helped him was exactly what I was in the mood for. This story fell into my lap at the perfect moment and I was completely sucked in from the start. I enjoyed this story far more than book one and was so disappointed to reach the end. I wasn't ready to be done with Sam and Ryan.

I almost stopped reading the book because of the viewpoint confusion and the changing names for characters. Referring to characters I didn't really know yet by their first name on one page and their last name on another made it hard to grasp the intercrossing relationships and connection.

However, there was something that made me keep reading and I did enjoy the ending. It was more of a calming read than anything and met me where I was. I would consider reading more of the author's work in the future. Nothing hard core here, more sweet and nothing too complicated.

The Detective’s Pleasure is book two in the Cuffs, Collars and Love series by Christa Tomlinson. I think this book shows that the author has grown quite a bit since the first book. There was still a ton of sex but it was better balanced with the relationship and action of the SWAT. The BDSM was also more developed and deliciously kinky with a great Dom/Sub relationship.

Sam was a great Dom and Ryan a bratty Sub. I loved how the two mixed. I didn’t like Ryan much from the first book but grew to understand him more in this book and loved to see him surrender. You get a better understanding of why he was so hung up on Logan.

There was a good mystery in the background that, while not focused on much, still brought needed dynamics into the book and kept it more than just erotica. We got some good action scenes with tension.

There were a few tedious scenes, such as detailed descriptions of Ryan cleaning his home and ironing his uniforms, that I felt took up more page space than necessary to convey Ryan’s personality. However, although they were noticeable, they were also limited.

Fans of the first book will love this one, those who liked the first book should definitely read this one.

I didn't think I would like this book as much as I did with the first one because Ryan was such a douche in that book. However, I like Ryan and Sam a lot more than Clay and Logan. The scenes with Ryan and Sam seemed more intimate and sensual compared to the ones with Clay and Logan. Even though this book was really long, it didn't feel like it did with the first book. That book was ridiculously long with the subject matter. I felt I got to learn more about the characters and actually grow together. Clay was so petty in this book. I would like a sequel to this book because I want to see Ryan and Sam continue to grow as a couple. I also want to know more of Ryan's backstory.

Really great book! Very intense, emotional connection between the two MC's. Great build-up. And also smokin' hot...

At first, Ryan is a bit hard to like or get to know, he is extremely closed-off. However, the reasons for that become clear further along in the story as Sam wears him down, and I ended up completely in love with him and rooting for him like crazy!!

Sam is a wonderful character, very persistent, which is at odd's with how laid-back he seems. He does get it wrong sometimes though, and is not the greatest at seeing what is staring him right in the face... feelings-wise.

Absolutely recommend this!!

** I received this book as an ARC for a fair and honest review**

This is the second book in the Cuff, Collars and Love series. I did not read the first book but this book was fine as a stand alone.

The MC's are Ryan Bennett who I understand was in the first book, a bratty, stubborn and at times down right rude sub who wants to join his department's SWAT team and show his former Dom who happens to be a team leader what he lost when he chose another over him.

Then there is Sam, a detective who happens to be a Dom and who is intrigued by the way Ryan acts towards other Doms at the local club and also in regards to the man who let them go.

What starts out as a temporary situation develops into something more as both men realize that what they need is each other. Both have trust issues that have hardened them in different ways. Ryan feels that no one will ever want to be his Dom, to give him a collar which he wants almost if not maybe even more than being in SWAT. Four men have been his Dom and none have chosen him so he has built a wall around himself to stop anyone else from hurting him. Sam had a collared Sub but due to his work and the fact that his Sub did not want to hear about his work life it made Sam realize they were incompatible and the relationship ended. Now Sam makes sure that nothing is permanent because he can't rely on anyone.

So I did like this story quite a bit even though for a good portion of the book I wanted to smack Ryan really hard. His constant churlish behavior and belief that he was better than everyone else was starting to wear thin and then the reasons behind the attitude came to light and I realized just why he was always so defensive and it broke my heart. All he wanted was to be loved, to be chosen not only for SWAT but to be a collared Sub, to know someone wanted him and only him. Sam was so patient with him, slowly breaking down his walls and making him into a better man.

The whole side story with the crank caller I'm not sure was needed. I know it was used to end animosity between Sam and his former Dom's collared sub but I think there could have been a better way to handle it.

The BDSM side is light and that was okay, it didn't need to be heavy as the heavy stuff was definitely all emotional.

Overall a good read from a new to me author.

I was surprised it was so good 👍

I you can't help but feel sorry for Ryan and he upset with him at the same time. He has demons that keep him from forming relationships but he just wants to belong. Sam is patient and firm and willing to help Ryan overcome his fears. I love Ryan and his flaws. This is the first time I've read a book with the dom that was so understanding and a sub that so forceful. I look forward to the next book.

I enjoyed this addition to the Cuffs, Collars, and Love series. I'm hoping there will be a third book. Perhaps a loving, nurturing dom like Sam could inspire my submission? Nah . . . but I appreciated the way he used his calm, commanding manner to help Ryan overcome his failed relationships and fear of rejection. Good writing and character development with a couple moments (lol) of passion made reading this book my pleasure. I never thought someone wailing on my ass could be romantic, but what do I know?? #KeepingAnOpenMind
