E Tem Outra Coisa... by Eoin Colfer

On the one hand, Colfer managed to undo the damage that Adams did with the God awful 'Mostly Harmless.' On the other hand, this book mostly ignores Ford, Arthur, and Trillian, instead focusing on Zaphod, a scheming businessman, and Thor. Not a very satisfying ending. Also, Colfer uses Random Dent, Arthur and Trillian's daughter, for a serious of vitrolic rants about how awful teenagers are. A bit odd, considering Colfer is a popular young adult author. I rate this book as number five out of the six.

I really had no idea what to expect with this book, but I loved it. Absolutely loved it. It's not Douglas Adams, but we don't get to have Douglas Adams write things anymore so it was really this or let the series die wasn't it? It doesn't matter. It was wonderful. A little different, but wonderful. The same fantastic universe through another Author's eyes. The jokes were funny, to the point I laughed out loud quite a few times, or at least smiled broadly. The story was great. Zaphod Beeblebrox versus Asgard is probably one of my favorite scenes in any book, hitchhiker or otherwise.

In short, Eoin Colfer did Hitchhiker's fans a great service. You owe it to yourself to pick it up and read it if you ever liked the series at all.

My 100th book of 2020. I should have picked a better one. I never had any intention of reading the so called 6th Hitchhiker's book. I knew I wasn't going to like anyone but Douglas Adams writing these characters, but when my library gets a sci-fi or fantasy audiobook, which is rare (because the library supplies the public's demand, which seems to be domestic psycho-wife-cheating-husband thrillers these days) I seem to impulse borrow it (like impulse buying, get it?). So yeah, not the best, but it's ok because I can just pretend it doesn't exist and live in denial :).

This was fun, but ultimately not amazing or anything. A worthy extension of the universe, given the premise that there should be additional extensions of the universe.

More life fan fiction than a proper HHGG book.

Though I enjoyed the plot of this book and there were some genuinely funny bits (e.g. the cows that want to be eaten), this book failed to live up to the rest of the series. Other adaptations/interpretations of Adams' work have had the benefit of a script (Shada, City of Death, The Pirate Planet) or game with direct oversight (Starship Titanic) and have on the whole been more enjoyable. I think this book works best when Cofler isn't trying to channel Adams and is definitely worth reading for those who like the rest of the series such as myself.

I read it, I avoided it for years but I finally broke down and read it. It was interesting and I understand with Colfer was chosen and, hell, I even like his Artemis Fowl series. However, And Another Thing is not on the same level as Douglas Adams. It made me chuckle and it did make me smile but it didn't settle anything and really wasn't the close to the series I had hoped for. It took me almost a month to get through because I kept putting it down at the thought "That's not how Douglas would have written it" and I kept coming back out of sheer bloody mindedness. At least I'm through it now.

Another wacky instalment in this series. I didn’t like that the author used a different writing style compared to the original author. Otherwise, a fitting end to the series.
