We start off with Hua Cheng being
reverted to a small child. This is absolutely adorable and the reveal of him growing back to normal size is so sweet.

I think my major complaint with this book is that while I generally love two characters discussing lore to themselves, it does come across as info-dumpy in this novel. We went through
Yin Yu and Quan Yizhen's backstory, as well as Pei Ming and Rain Master's.
Most of the book they are traveling through Mount Tonglu and we get more info-dumps about the
people of Wuyong.

The pda levels are increasing
(there's so much hugging Im gonna die of cuteness - when they were trapped in the wall together? Ugh so hard to focus on dumb Yin Yu and Quan Yizhen)
and Pei Ming is very likeable for this entire book.  Every time anyone says
your San Lang or your Crimson Rain Sought Flower
to Xie Lian, I just about die.

This seemed like a pretty decent slow-build for the next book (and comedy relief) before getting into the next book where we learn about the Fourth Calamity.

The low score is only because
Hua Cheng was de-aged for almost half the novel and I missed him actually being useful
, and it pissed me off so bad. ALSO,
the whole fucking scene where Xie Lian praises Eming to get it to grow larger... I was weirded the hell out.
.

The Crown Prince of Wuyong plot is finally in action. I don't remember how it plays out, so I'm (almost) as confused as a new reader!

This one did have some baller moments/quotes:
  • The red string! AA!

  • I really liked Pei Ming for some reason. I don't usually gaf about the background characters, but he grew on me... like a tumor.
  • I did actually start liking a lot of the side characters during this one. Besides Pei Ming, I started to like Ling Wen (they backstoried her), Yin Yu (they backstoried him), Qi Ying (idfk). I've always liked rain master so that's not new to me.
  • Xie Lian shoving a butcher knife in Qi Rong's teeth... amazing... so deserved... There should've been more threatening Xie Lian in this one but that's alright.
  • The "who is the daddy" plot has finally been solved. Jesus Christ it took forever.
  • "[...]. Sometimes, it's not up to you to decide is the road is easy to walk." then "I might not be able to decide if the road is easy, but whether I walk it is entirely up to me." Then! '[...]. He felt like a knot in his heart had been untied, [...]'    ..........Needless to say, I was throwing up.
  • "Do you think I would so easily allow you lot to touch my heart's dearest treasure?"
  • Christ! Yin Yu and Quan Yixhen's backstory! My hair fell out from the stress. Yikes man, yikes.

Finally, the best moment/quote this book was:
"It doesn't feel so bad to share a grave."

(Because of the implications...)
