I wish it explored the more complex themes/plot-lines and less on the failure of proper communication amongst the characters. But overall, it was a decent, light read. Great if you want to reminisce on what you thought your twenties were going to be in high school.

Personally my favorite of Sally Rooney’s books: Alice and Eileen discuss society and beauty and standards and history in their emails to each other is such detailed and intelligent ways, their thoughts always in a grey area and explores both sides of a matter. The realistic representation of love and friendship and personality is refreshing. None of the characters are always right or always wrong.

honestly i’m sitting at a 4.75 to 5 star rating but i’m giving it the 5 star purely for the vibes bc I read this while on vacation
I just love sally rooney’s writing, it’s never something I thought i’d gravitate to considering it’s not romance, but I absolutely love how her writing flows and how her characters are just so flawed and you still want to root for them
I loved alice and eileen despite their silliness and the way I was just like guys!!! don’t be silly!!! I loved the style of this book, the way it alternated w their emails to each other and then their lives
so yeah i’ll give this 5 stars I loved it honestly
this isn’t a book for everyone tho, esp if you don’t like her format and just know this has characters that will anger you LOL but regardless, I LOVED IT !

I’ve never read anything by Sally Rooney and was curious what the hype was. I’m not entirely sure that this was my cup of tea - the characters and story line didn’t really interest me at all, but the detached writing style was actually the highlight of the book for me. Almost like sitting back and watching the Sims.

i learnt a lot about myself and my relationship with love (platonic or otherwise)
it's beautifully written and at times it reads like a rom-com which i LOVE
i also didn't cry at all while reading it, there definitely were parts that were so good they made me feel like i could cry but I didn't. normally i wouldn't give a book 5 stars if it didn't make me cry but this one deserves to be an exception.
