First book I've read by Sally Rooney, and honestly I did like it! I cannot really express my feelings about it yet, so I might edit this review later on, or I might not, who knows!

Two things I didn't like about the book is that the writer didn't use indications for when people we're having a conversation/emailing with each other. It was also sometimes very unclear who we were reading about > no POV announcements.

Understatedly unique prose. Dialogue is very striking to me, though not sure if that’s Rooney’s craft or just the fact that the characters are Irish. But speaking of!! It's so full of character. I love it.

In a four-star review for Vox, Constance Grady argued that Beautiful World investigates questions with which Rooney's fiction has been consistently preoccupied:

"As the world collapses all around us, is it morally defensible to devote your life to love, relationships, and the aesthetic pleasure of books? What if you get rich from it?

The first of Sally Rooney’s books I’ve read, and definitely not the last. I like the exploration of humanity and our flaws. While there wasn’t a “plot” per se, it was still very interesting to read about the mundane interactions of the characters and how their relationships with each other push and pull.

I really wanted to love this, but unfortunately the story fell very short. The pacing seemed very inconsistent, the different points of views of the characters were hard to follow, so at times it was difficult to understand who was talking within the story. I also felt this book was too short for all the characters to be fully developed, and all their nuances and growth to be fleshed out. I left the story feeling as if there was more detail that needed to be added, overall this book unfortunately was not very memorable.
