Cute spin on the Three Little Pigs that allows you to "help" the wolf huff and puff. Charming illustrations.

A pretty sanitized version of the classic story, this one has the
Spoilerwolf blowing out candles on a birthday cake
on the final page. The drawings are detailed and awesome, but the cut outs for the kids to blow through on the "Huff & Puff" pages are just dumb and gimmicky. First off, it just encourages all my story time kids to spit on the book, which is not cool. Second, the holes are weirdly spaced and the parts of the pictures you can see through the holes really detracts from the story. They are just silly and the book would be better without them.

The story itself is fun and incredibly simple - great for a read aloud to toddlers, but not really enough for most preschoolers.

A very fun retelling of this story. Would be great fun for young kids. Would also be a fun book to use for minilesson work with older kids.

The story illustrations are great. The watercolors and pen and ink have a lot of character, detail and dynamism. The surprise at the ends makes this fairy tale a little more "kid-friendly" and fun. There are several pages that are full-page color illustrations with the words "Huff & Puff" centered. In the center of the ampersand is a small hole. While this could lend some fun to the design of the book, it does nothing but serve to confuse the reader as to its point. Of the four or five spreads like this, only one works as the page is covered in bricks and the hole shows bricks on the following page so it looks as if the whole page is textured. When you flip the page, however, and the hole looks back to the previous pages, the letters "fing" show through. So over all, the illustrations and text are great, but the design is seriously flawed--taking a good idea and doing nothing with it.

I wonder if the ending will go over the heads of my 2 & 3 yr olds.

That was an interesting play on the traditional three little pigs story.  They still build their houses, there is still huffing and puffing, but the ending is happier.  The illustrations are simple and work really well with the story.
