The dialogue in this was very ????
This is one of those YA romance books that everyone recommends, but honestly, I didn't love it as much as I was hoping to. AND TRUST it had everything there for me. I am a secret pen pal lover, and an easy ya reads, but this one was not for me.

Girl and boy meet online over shared love of classic movies. Girl moves to boy's hometown without telling him and meets hot surfer dude who becomes her archnemesis/potential love interest. Very much You Got Mail set in a Santa Cruz like town. Readers will easily guess Alex's identity, but Bennett makes the journey worthwhile. First person POV with a great voice - I giggled a lot. Fans of Sarah Dessen and Emery Lord will enjoy.

If u check my read book, then u know i am a fan of YA novels. So when Alex, Approximately comes up into my radar, i shelfed it under want to read. So today i start reading it. The thing is from the blurp we know who is the real alex. So i was hoping the book will cut the chase of guessing who is alex and develop more into the romance.

However i was wrong. So this book, tells a story about guessing game who is alex. So i think thats pretty stupida and waste of time since the blurb already told u who is alex.
I tried to like other aspect of this book. Such as the character development etc. But i can not find something interesting. The movie reference is pretty cool. But thats pretty much about it.

So after listening 30% in, i put it under DNF. I think its just waste of my time reading this book.

3.5 stars. I liked the beginning and the ending. And there were a couple times I thought it would be a 5-star read. But a couple of things happened, and I cannot get passed the way the were handled, and how they were also supported by the adults. The MC does her best friend and her dad wrong, and there wasn’t enough fallout for that. This was just okay for me.

It's rare for me to read contemporary YA romance but this one is a loosely based You've Got Mail retelling so I couldn't resist.

This is all sorts of cute, fun and nerdy with a diverse set of characters, yet there's quite a bit of tragedy and psychological trauma involved too; so not all hearts and roses.

Mink/Bailey Rydell swaps Mum for Dad, east coast for west coast, not only to make a fresh start but also with the intention of covertly discovering the real life identity of her online soulmate, classic movie nerd Alex/????? who lives in the same coastal town as her Dad. Of course, she fails to find him. Sure, it's obvious from all the clues very early on who Alex really is but that didn't stop my enjoyment reading this.

I powered through this looking forward to the moment the penny finally dropped. Loved it... I'll be recommending and reading more from Jenn Bennett.

You've Got Mail is one of my favorite movies, and this was a suitable, contemporary, young-adult version.
