Thank you to NetGalley for providing me an a-arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was okay. My main issue with it is something that will hopefully be solved on release. The issue was that no matter what device I tried to use to read this, it was practically unreadable. The formatting was off with the speech text being way to small to read comfortably, as well as the graphic panels being split awkwardly along pages where parts of the page were white covering the panel. I understand that this is probably due to the formatting of the arc and will be adjusted.

Despite that I didn't find myself massively wowed when reading. I enjoyed how there was representation of LGBTQ+ as well as different racial ethnicities, however the character relationships were confusing to me. The pacing was all over the place with things happening extremely fast but I think this was also because there were some time jumps.

I personally wouldn't really recommend this to others as although I really like the concept, the execution falls flat for me.

I really bummed about this one. The concept for this and the art style is so up my alley heck even the plot is great. This could have been a really cool series if it wasn't for dialog.
All of these characters sounds nothing like real teenagers. Their dialog feel like an AI wrote it after watching all the seasons of Glee. I mean its like the authors has never been near real teenagers.
Also the characters were all stereotypes. We had the ultra feminine gay, the "slutty" bisexual, the butch lesbian, and the shy new kid and, not a single original person in the group.
Sadly this story is just a major pass for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Legendary Comics for an advance digital copy.

When I first started this graphic novel, I felt like I was really going to enjoy it. Seemed like something that was perfect for me. However, it all just felt flat. I didn’t really care for the characters and the dialogue between the characters felt forced and weird. I feel like this could have been something really neat and I’d be interested to see where it goes but I didn’t like the way this was written.

This has a lot of potential but a very confusing start. It had everything I like in theory; being a graphic novel, magic, witches, and queer characters! The beginning is what tripped me up with the plot. The main character moves to a new school after a family tragedy and suddenly has best friends and is in a witch coven? Why did they suddenly become besties? Why is he going to their houses and learning their quirks after just one day of knowing them? The timing throughout the book was also confusing. It felt like there was time jumping and parts cut out. The plot itself was exciting and very mysterious, and I would read more of it to know what was happening. And I don't know if this was because I was reading on NetGalley, but they had character profiles at the end of the book that SPOILED the plot??!!!

The best thing about this book was the art! I loved the style and thought it fit the book perfectly. The character designs were perfect, and I am totally looking up the artist to see more of their work.

Overall I enjoyed it and would read more of the series, but I am still confused about what happened, especially at the start.

Content warning- this book discusses suicide ideation and suicide, domestic violence, as well as mental illness. This book has a really dark and creepy feel to it, definitely a great graphic novel to read around Halloween. There's a lot of mentions of mental illness and suicide as well as quite a few graphic panels, so I'm not sure it would be appropriate for anyone younger than high-school-aged. The story itself is very unique and there's quite a bit of racial and queer diversity. I'm interested to see where Curtis goes next with the storyline, I hope that there's able to be more back story with all the other characters as I'd love to hear more about their home lives.

Elliot is starting his first day at a new high school in a new state, having moved from Ohio to California. His mom got a new job as a vice principal at a prestigious private school in the Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles. Aside from the culture shock, Elliot has been having weird visions and dreams of a creepy skeleton-looking figure hunting him. Within hours of arriving at school, he becomes adopted by the self-proclaimed weirdos of the school: five witches looking to complete their coven with him as the sixth. He’s arrived just in time for the most powerful moon in centuries. But all of them get more than they signed up for when a vengeful demon starts coming after Elliot and hurting other classmates and teachers in the process. Elliot must juggle his need for acceptance, his past trauma, his new magical powers, and his romantic feelings, all while fighting off an evil cult and their savage demons.

Creepy, and chilling, and smart, and tender, this was a magical whirlwind full of witches and demons, and raging teen hormones. This graphic novel was a delight, and I can’t wait for what comes next!

I received an advanced digital copy of this book from the publisher, through Netgalley.
