In reading this novel, you’d go in thinking one thing and come out of it gaining a different perspective on the characters, particularly the male lead. This story encapsulates the notion that people come into your life either for a season, or a reason. I’d categorize this as more of a general fiction/mystery with a bit of a romance than a full-on romcom. The unconventional storytelling definitely kept me wanting to flip the pages quickly so I could discover the twist.

Trigger warnings:
It took me a long time to get into the story and this wasn't exactly what I expected it to be. The twists were surprising, but I wish I could have grown attached to the characters a bit more. Not the best Beth O'Leary book, if you ask me, but still entertaining as a whole. :)

I do love a Beth O'Leary novel! My favorite book of hers is still The Flatmate, but I did enjoy this one. There was a twist that I did not expect, but once it was clear, it made total sense. I really didn't like Joseph Carter at first, but through the course of the book, my opinion changed. Great book!
