This is considered one of the weaker Dresden books and I see why. It doesn’t have the same action and mystery the others have. It’s mostly build up. It’s the calm before the storm (the storm being Battle Grounds).
And it works. Reading this, I could feel tension in the air. Dominions are being set up for something big. Imagine seeing a tornado coming towards you over the horizon. That’s the feeling I got.
Overall, I really liked this book. It’s packed with my favorite things in stories: “Water Cooler Moments”, or just characters bantering with each other, and heavier, personal drama among them. Character moments, basically.
