This is a beautiful book I’d recommend to anyone, with a label that says “read at your own risk of crying” because you will fall in love and it will hurt.

THIS WAS SO GOOD, and my only wish is that I was a gamer — I mean, I already got so much out of this book, EFFING LOVED IT, but if  I was a gamer this probably would have opened some another level (pun intended).

I loved how all the characters were developed, and all their flaws were sometimes so unlovable yet understandable, human, they frustrated me so much yet I would have done anything for them. I also loved how just like in real life, there are no happily ever afters — human lives are a flow, and this book perfectly depicted that.

I'm also happy that Sam and Sadie never ended up dating (at least in the written story, who knows about their future?) — I wouldn't have been very against that either as I loved them both, but it was a fresh and realistic view to have them be just friends and fall out of touch for years. 

This book was so emotional, but what finally made me cry was Dong Hyun's funeral and how HE LEFT THE DONKEY KONG MACHINE FOR SADIE. I'm crying again just thinking about it.

I disliked the first 300 pages, but was blown away by the last 100. I'm not sure it would ever be something I'd read again but I really respect how immersive and rounded the characters are - it's almost disturbing how lifelike they are

I was nervous because this book is longer than anything I've read in awhile, but it has been recommended to me many times and I'm so happy I read it! I didn't want it to end. The author's vocabulary is superb. I learned so many delicious words reading this book. Some of the best writing about a disability I have ever read. I relished the passages about Sam's time with his mom and grandparents. By the end of the book, I found myself thinking about friends I haven't talked to awhile, and wanting to catch up with them. I hope this book encourages other readers to reach out to old friends, too. 

Definite content warning about a professor/freshman student relationship that has nonconsensual BDSM aspects, and a separate content warning for gun violence.
