This is book one in the Tommy and Tuppence series and it was entertaining. This is a bit different from Christie’s Poirot or standalone novels. Tommy and Tuppence are in need of money and they’re willing to do just about anything to get it. They put an ad in the paper for the Young Adventurers Ltd. We watch as our characters get wrapped up in international espionage. Far from polished spies or detective Tommy and Tuppence bumble through their adventure as the track down Jane Finn and the dastardly Mr. Brown. This is a good book and I’ll be working my way through this series. Tuppence can be a little annoying and Tommy is a tad dumb. Overall, it’s Christie and it works.

I personally loved the characters and thought the kidnapping plot was refreshing. It read almost like a spy novel.

Toward the end I realized i had listened to this as a book on tape on a drive down I-5 with my mom and brother. Still enjoyed the reread, classic Agatha Christie!

A bit of a spoof on the detective novel and the power of Youth in fiction to have everything turn out All Right, this is an entertaining adventure with a few twists and turns and red herrings along the way. Don't read it expecting a proper mystery since it has a highly improbable plot, but it also chuckles at itself, the characters are charming, and all's well that end's well.

I struggled with this book. I've always found the Tommy and Tuppence books the hardest to get on with, and though I was fairly engaged early on, my interest waned completely by the 50/60% Mark. I pushed on, but only because it was the first book in the series, and I wanted the closure.

The plot was dull and a bit too international politics/spy thriller for me. None of the characters were overly likeable and the bad guy was pretty clear.
