Really enjoyed this audiobook. Love the voice actor from other works and this was no exception. Might be one of my favorites of the year. Heartfelt but also wholesome

I'd heard great things about this because Julia Whelan is an audiobook narrator, like the main character. The audiobook was definitely the best way to experience this, because Whelan narrates it and I got the impression she had written characters which would be fun to perform. Unfortunately I didn't love the story as much as I wanted to because I just never felt very invested in the romance. It was an easy listen but there were a lot of subplots, some of which didn't really hold my interest. However I did enjoy Whelan's writing and the commentary on romance novel tropes.

there were parts i liked and parts i didn’t like. it was an average read for me and i honestly don’t feel like dissecting all that i disliked in a review. if you like emily henry’s writing, you may like this?? idk, it’s more of contemporary fiction with a romance subplot but there were just too many subplots going on for me.

disability rep: missing eye, facial trauma

⚠️: injury/injury detail, infidelity (not mc), dementia, death, ableism, suicide attempt, addiction

Am I low-key in love with Julia Whelan’s Irishman’s voice? Absolutely.

I’m so glad I listened to this book instead of just read it. The dialogue is it’s strongest aspect with excellent humor, realistic conversations/arguments, and banter. Lots of banter.

I enjoyed these characters and this unique story.

Ugh I loved every bit of it! Julia is such an amazing story teller. Her voicing of the different characters was so good and I found myself historically laughing and also feeling sad and heartbroken throughout the whole novel. It had all the tropes but not in a cheesy way. So good!
