I think the plot is genuinely good and interesting, I’m bummed the characters themselves weren’t fully developed enough for me. They were a little flat and definitely big time insta-lovey.

The themes of reincarnation, trauma, afterlife, loss, even derealisation.. some of the “twists”, the imagery of the characters and the world, and overall concepts.. all  good! I just wish the FMC had more depth, was more clever, overall likable.. and honestly same for the side characters. Another FMC character aside from the big bad would have been cool too, like Moro’s character easily could have been a woman. It seems everyone is in love with the FMC because she is beautiful and damaged (she certainly isn’t the brightest bulb). The relationships felt very “I like you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you, I like you again, I hate you forever but I love you”.

I feel like fans of Scarlett St Claire and Blood to Ash could enjoy this series.

I am super into “gods of-“ tropes, romantasy, and some RH.. so I’m going to read the second book anyway, as I read this one really fast, so I did enjoy it to a degree. I just think there could have been more substance between the lines, especially because it had SO much potential thematically.

The author does their own artwork for at least one of the editions (could be for all, I just don’t know for sure) which is very admirable, and I think the artwork on the covers with the characters on the cover is beautiful! While I will continue with the series, I don’t think I would re-read them, which I was hoping for so I could add the special editions to my collection, but I’m glad they are available to read on KU. We will see what happens in books 2 & 3!
