The Great Stink is such an interesting story, but I think it’s a little too complicated for a picture book. I liked the art style,
i liked the story and the information. I think this book would be better suited for older readers, on account of how many words and how much information is in it.

I think it was very interesting how the author tied in London’s sewage problem with the still current issue of global cholera and access to clean water. In America, we think of access to clean water is another country’s problem, from another century or a third world concern. But as the world goes on and gets bigger, we’re going to need to constantly think of ways to innovate to keep this problem at bay.

What an interesting and gross part of British history. I loved seeing the progression of understanding diseases and how they moved their poop around before just dumping it in the river. Gross, but interesting.

Very interesting book, especially since I recently read about the cholera epidemic in England.

London suffers from recurrent outbreaks of cholera until a civil engineer saves the citizens with an innovative sewer system.
Solid cross-curricular STEM/history readaloud.

Kids love reading about poop. And this book pairs poop with a water-borne disease epidemic that is certain to make this an interesting and timely read for kids.

Maybe drinking our own poo isn’t a great idea.

At the very least, poo should be a “sometimes” drink, sort of how Cookie Monster says cookies are a “sometimes” food.

Boy, what an improvement they made by giving that character an emphasis on moderation. Because that’s what we all wanted to see. Not a puppy crushing cookies into its eyes with a wild-eyed, unblinking focus. Really reminds me of me while eating a pizza. Which is a “sometimes” food for me, but only because economic factors force this diet on me.
