This book had a very slow start and some of the things annoy me in the world building, but overall not bad. Once the pace picked up a bit, the book was hard to put down.

I'm hovering around 3.5-3.75 I'll have to sit on it and see how I feel with the second book in the series

Not the most compelling opening volume I've read by my most admired author, but great characters as always and I'm definitely still going to read the next volume.

The 100 but with dragons.
Spoilers:
Well, what to say about this little episode. The dragons were disturbingly sad and pathetic with many challenges in their lives. They are carnivorous, rude, controlling, rash, and all around fairly unlikeable. The same could be said for the human characters of the book, save one or two. I’ll continue this series but only to complete the ROTE saga.

"Sleep, then. It's good practice for death."
When had it become so ingrained in her to apologize whenever she wanted something for herself?
It wasn't the meat that had awakened this in her, though the meat had been very good. It had been the struggle to kill, and above all, the triumph of killing and eating the riverpig.
She had a moment of regret that she pushed aside. Death fed life. He was meat now, and all hers.
I was gonna give this four stars, but the ending left me wanting. The ending was like, wait, that's it??
If I hadn't been tipped to the fact that this series would have a lot of romance, I think I would have been caught off guard at just how much romance it had. I do, however, LOVE
I love the idea of a bunch of misfits and unwanted people coming together to help a bunch of unwanted creatures find a safe place to call home. I hope they prevail! I also love that this series seems like it will be focused on some really strong female characters! The Fitz ones are mainly male-dominated, and the Liveship Traders is a breath of fresh air because of it.

Mostly setting the ground for the next books, got more into it towards the last quarter. Love the focus on the dragons and a main female character finding herself and her strength among men.
