Indeed there is something about Sweetie and that's magic..!!!
Sweetie's plot adds some emotional sensitivity as well as thought-provoking emotion to the mix. The book dives into Sweetie's fatphobia, which haunts but does not define her life, is genuine and at times nasty, but she eventually triumphs over it.
Sweetie's desire was very painful here:
"Because! I’m like this now ! Sweetie wanted to say. Why are you always saying you’ll like future me, thin me, better? Why can’t you just like me how I am?"
This hurts, I could relate to Sweetie on multiple levels.
However, the relationship was a touch too insta-love , but you can't deny the force of a huge, theatrical first kiss at a Holi celebration.
Though a few flaws prevent me from putting this higher than faultless, it's absolutely worth reading From Twinkle with Love.
All in All, this is charming yet rather imperfect companion to When Dimple Met Rishi

Ah, Sandhya Menon, the final scenes between your main characters and parents in all of your books, always make me cry....

3,5./ I'm sorry, it didn't top Dimple and Rishi. But I get the message and had my sweet time reading it. No, I have not grown out of YA yet, not fully at least. But I wanted more.
PS:What annoyed me as a Greek? The main characters going on a date on a greek restaurant, the one ordering fish and tzatziki, the second one moussaka and having them kissing and portraying it with grandeur. No, It's discussing. Please research flavours before putting them arbitrarily on a date scene. Attention to detail is important

This was everything I hoped it would be and then some.
It was adorable, funny, infuriating, real, honest and empowering. I loved it with my whole heart.

This was just what my battered mind needed. The right mix of fun and realism.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I just don't love these. I do love a talented, confident, beautiful and desirable main girl character who is not white or thin. I will support them every time. But there was soooo much about this that just really bothered me.
I also really hate that the message seems to be that your parents know best, and deserve to make important decisions for you, even if they are arguably abusive toward you. Why Sweetie chooses to agree with whatever her mother decides about Ash when she KNOWS her mom is wrong about how she treats Sweetie because of her body is mind-boggling to me. I understand the importance of parental approval in families like Ash's and Sweetie's, but FOR REAL Sweetie's mother does not deserve an opinion after how hard she's tried to drill into her shame and self-loathing for her entire life.
Spoiler
To me, it felt like the acceptability of Sweetie's fatness was conditional on her other exceptional abilities. Not only is she fit, she is actually the fastest runner in the entire state, and the best singer in the school, and exceptionally beautiful, and has wonderful friends and always obeys her parents. Should she be ashamed of her body if she were just an average athlete, or even a poor one? Of course not. Why does she need to prove to Ash that it doesn't matter that she's fat by beating him in a race the first time they hang out? Would it be ok for her to be fat if she didn't also have a beautiful face? Absolutely! And what if she was just an average singer--would she not deserve the respect of her classmates, the devotion of her friends, the love of Ash? Why can't she be average, and fat, and respected and loved??I also really hate that the message seems to be that your parents know best, and deserve to make important decisions for you, even if they are arguably abusive toward you.
