I find myself  very surprised for liking this book as much as I did. Usually, fairy stories are too violent for my liking, but this one, though it did have violence in it, was more charming than anything, and that had everything to do with our maybe neurodivergent lead protagonist. She was adorable, full of heart and courage, smart, outspoken, determined, and ethical. Also loved her dog Shadow.

A cozy, adventurous fantasy tale from the point of view of an academic researching faeries.

Lots of fairy folk tales, lots of human stories - I absolutely loved this!

my god???? the start was a bit slow at first, but then i was completely enamoured by the story. the writing style, the scenery, the atmosphere, the worldbuilding, but most particularly, the banter between emily & wendell. the romance is something on the side for the majority & then it blooms & it's so splendid. wendell is so babygirl & emily is so neurodivergent coded. ahhh, i am overjoyed that this is a trilogy. i will be seeking the next installment immediately!

I had a lot of fun with this. It was a surprise to finish and realize how much was packed into just about 300 pages. Pretty much loaded up the next book in the series the second I was finished, before even trying to log it over here.
