By reading this book, you get a sense of Chelsea's struggles throughout her life, and how boxed-in she has felt by different aspects of it, whether that be from a political/military standpoint and her ideals, or how she's dealt with her identity and how people around her responded to that. She's been through a whole lot of abhorrent stuff in her life, and she articulates it amazingly in this book. An excellent read.

Harrowing, impactful, inspiring. Gave me a lot to think about, especially considering the US funded atrocities happening in Palestine at the moment.

as someone who was only vaguely familiar with chelsea manning's story beforehand - i'm not american & was a child when it all went down - learning what she had to endure was absolutely infuriating. nothing new i know but GOD the shit the american military gets away with is fucking mind-boggling

Chelsea Manning is an American hero, but she is also incredibly smart, resilient, adaptable, and reading her story was inspiring. She acted on her conscience and I am grateful to her for it.

intensely readable but i would have liked more. fuck the DOD for the redactions. the craziest part is that they PUT HER BACK IN JAIL for another year, not mentioned in the book. the injustice she faced/faces is so flagrant you almost forget the US has a constitution meant to protect against it

Every young civilian working on DOD contracts should read this especially if they're LGBT.

Very insightful to something that was going at the same time as my youth that I didn't understand at the time.
