still too upset to review, need to process. I had been warned that this author pulled no punches with her characters and I feel like I was on the end of one of those punches.

Griffin Shaw died fifty years ago, but couldn’t let this life go. He’s been serving as a guide for other souls ever since, just doing the job – until he pokes his nose into the death of one of his assignments. Then he helps Kit Craig investigate that death, and gets into trouble for saving her life instead of ushering her soul on as he was supposed to. Not that he could help himself, he likes this sassy, bubbly journalist…

Now, Grif has “official” permission to stay around and find out who killed his wife – in addition to his regular job, that is. Then Grif and Kit get involved in something way more serious than looking into a cold case. A new drug on the streets is killing its victims, horribly. And to add insult to injury, the dead lose their souls, literally, to an evil being who thrives on the Lost.

Grif being Grif, he’s got to figure out how to banish the evil, find the source of the drugs, and try to save some lives. And Kit being Kit, she has to help him. Even if doing so reveals hard truths about Griffin Shaw and (one of) his reason(s) for being in town. How does a girl compete with a fifty-year-dead wife?

Vicki Pettersson’s Celestial Blues series is part crime noir, part paranormal/fantasy, part romance, set in Las Vegas in all of its glittering lights and dark alleyways. The characters are complicated and carry a boatload of baggage. The storyline flows as smoothly as silk. And the plot keeps you guessing to the end. You’ll never believe the revelation we’re given at the end of The Lost, and boy does it make me anxious to get my hands on the next book! Unfortunately, I’m going to have to find a shred of patience – so I can practice having some while I wait… I love the cover, and I loved the stories. Pick this series up!

Pettersson always writes with compelling characters and this book was no exception. This is the second installment in a new series; it looks promising.

I had a really hard time getting into this book. For some reason, Kit seemed TSTL in this book and I don’t remember her being that way in the first book. The last chapter was a tear-jerker and of course, there was the proverbial cliffhanger, so we have to wait to see about the identity of Griffin’s killer or killers.

I struggled with this instalment and ending up skimming the second half because I found myself really disliking Kit. She was judgemental, self rightteous, manipulative and whiny. She made very poor, impulsive decisions with no thought for the consequences or how her decison would effect other people simply because she was convinced of her own superiority and righteousness. And her behaviour to Griff and jealousy of his first wife was selfish and childish. Griff has horrible nightmares about his and his wife's murder but is Kit sympathetic - no she is jealous becasue he is not dreaming of her. Then when Griff remembers Vegas from his time she asks him about it if Evie is in the story ( and given they were married and went palces together is perfectly reasonable that she would be) Kit gets all cold and jealous. To me Griff comes across as someone who has a mission to solve the murders and he has all this guilt as well about not saving Evie but this doesn't seem to be at the exculsion of all else. Nor does he always go on about Evie and how perfect she is. He seems to be genuinely invested in the relationship with Kit and to really love her but that is not good enough for Kit. While she can have cases and investigations which take her mind off Griff he must be a totally devoted slave with every thought and deed revolving around her. She basically creates this scenario in her head that Griff loves Evie more than her then punishes him for it. I am also extremely concerned that Kit will end being Evie reborn
Spoiler which would just make me sick.
