A delightful fun picture book in which kids ask very important questions to their parents!

I got this book from the library in Dutch, but since this book is officially English and I really enjoyed reading this one I will be writing a review for you all in English. I would recommend this fun book to all!

While I don’t remember much from my childhood (just bits and bobs here and there) I can remember that just like this group of kids I was curious what adults do all day while I was in school. And in this lovely and hilarious book the kids are asking those questions and pondering all that could be the answers. We see them ask about rules, about jumping on trampolines and dressing up in fun clothes and performing plays, to the most important question of all, Are You Eating Candy Without Me??? I had so much fun seeing the kids fantasize about their parents and I loved how they tried to rationalise because NOOO, parents wouldn’t do all those things, right? RIGHT? Haha, well I am not a parent so I cannot answer all those questions, but I guess as a parent I would have to make up something. Haha, because if I see a trampoline I would go for it. Candy, I am a bit reluctant to eat that during the day, but if the opportunity arises I may just say yes. XD

The ending was hilarious! Topping it off with a cherry on top.

I love the art in this one, it was just so adorable and I laughed my butt off seeing the adults have the time of their lives (if we have to believe the fantasies of the kids).

I would recommend this one to all~

It was cute! I loved the illustrations and I love how candy is infused in all the activities the adults are doing while the kids are gone. Shoutout to the dad that fell asleep reading a book to his kids.

This would be a really fun book to read the day after Halloween!

The art is cute, but it doesn’t really…do anything with the premise? Other than introducing the idea that the kids’ parent(s) are having fun without them, and I’m still not sure why that’s something you’d want to do…?

Silly book about children's FOMO. What do grownups do when you're not around?!

I really wanted this picture book to delve into the drama of a parent eating candy without their child, but alas, this is just one of several scenarios that the narrator imagines. The book's actual focus is on children wondering what their adults might be doing during the day, and the scenarios are all either saccharine or chaotic. Also, since the narrator speaks in a single first-person voice, the focus on three different adult/child pairs is confusing.

It appears that the author tried to get diversity points by including different skin tones and family structures without realizing how much stronger this book would be if it focused on one relationship. Even if this book wasn't going to focus on the fallout of a child finding their parent eating candy without them, the author at least needed to narrow her focus to one child imagining what one adult might be doing when they aren't around.

Literally and metaphorically sweet book about kids speculating what their guardians do when they're not around. Anything is fine, so long as they're not eating candy without their beloved children!

Fabulous illustrations, but clunky narrative.
