This book is incredible! A tale of Ancient Greece from the eyes of a revered and powerful Queen - the wife of Agamemnon, and not by choice.

She is powerful, delightfully complex and relentlessly lives by her moral compass. It is a wonder to behold such a woman at the center of a story. Usually, women are eclipsed by men, always in the shadows - but Clytemnestra shines and burns too brightly to ever be in the shadows.

All my homies hate Agamemnon!

Book is beautifully written. It’s a challenge to write this time period in a way that’s still easy to consume but this book definitely accomplishes that. It’s also super difficult for me to keep up with a lot of characters, but the descriptions and callbacks were so good that I rarely had to look back at the character list (which is also helpful)! I do feel like some scenes and details could be cut. While the book wasn’t especially long, it took me longer to get through than I expected. Overall I would recommend this to anyone interested in Greek mythology and/or female rage, with the caveat that you should definitely read the content warnings first.

The writing is blunt and on the nose, but I thought it worked well for a retelling set in Ancient Greece. It was a slow pace but only slogged in the first bit of the book.

My main issue with this story is that it stopped before getting to the end of Clytemenstra's life. It stopped before we really got to see the fallout of what she did, and it felt like we stopped in the middle of her arc right before things got juicy. I think it would've been more interesting to see what her mantra of "better to be hated than forgotten" ends up costing her and why she's okay with losing those thing rather than ending on what felt like a "high note".

It's a good book, but if it dived into the latter part of Clytemenstra's life (especially her relationship with Elektra) it would've been excellent.
