Didn't get to read this book in the intended order because my library didn't have it available at the time, so I skipped and circled back later. Not completely departing from our main storyline at that point in time, we get to focus on a different part of The Blood Realms. New characters, old friends and enemies are central to the story but it doesn't need background aside from the guide given in every book. It would help if you did read the other books first to understand the relationship with people but I can read this trilogy without reading the other first.

This series is pure id, just overwrought bonkers world building, and many content warnings apply, mainly for rape. There were a couple of good plot twists though and it's a page turner, as long as you're in the right mood!

While outside the time frame of "the usual suspects" mostly (there is a Daemon cameo) I love this addition to the Black Jewels world if only for the lead in to the second trilogy that this presents....the Grey Lady story line. Want more Black Jewels? Read it!!

So much fun.

This book started slower than her other novels, but boy when it got going it was great. I love when the sadist comes out to play.

Not gonna lie, this was cute. I mean, Anne Bishop Black Jewels cute, so simultaneously insane and cute, but still.

The whole rings thing in this series . . . I mean . . . really. Cannot take remotely seriously. Makes the title and the cover hilarious. That is all.
