Probably my least favourite of Ozeki's work. To me this just feels like a less well formed rendition of My Year of Meats. I'd reccomend reading that one instead, and only trying this one after if you can't get enough of her (like me).

One character's existence beyond his initial relationship is really contrived and I found his parts in the book to be very infuriating because of it.

Where I was hoping to find a mulling over of GMOs in our world, my discovery was just the standard, "They're all bad bad bad." Not to say there aren't issues with the current state of things. Far from it but there are larger conversations that no one seems to be having about GMOs. The Devil's advocacy was weak and the whole thing borderlines on being a screed.

The writing was light and delightful but ready the word "Yummy" over and over was nauseating. I understood the reasons but boy howdy do I wish it hadn't been such a queasiness-inducing word. Yummy. Ugh.

I don't normally write reviews but I felt I should at least briefly explain a two-or-lower score. So that is that.

Bye.

Edit: I'll bump it to a three.

There were parts I loved and parts that frustrated me. Overall I enjoyed it though and the ending was very good. If you've enjoyed her other books you'll enjoy this. I'd give it 3.5 stars if Goodreads would allow half marks.
