Did i enjoy the book yes but am i dying to read the second one… no. Are MC seems overly naive but only when it comes to certain aspects of her life that it seems like she chooses to ignore them and she isn’t stupid so it really is just putting blinders on for those aspects of her world which is gross.

HUZZAH. I have found a Holy Grail series.

I have this *thing* where I’m trying to find book series that hit the four corners of the rim of the Holy Grail cup - thus making them a member of “ Professor Lili’s Holy Grail Book Club”

The corners are as follows:

1. high fantasy with a well rounded and in-depth Magic system and World building. I wanna know that the author has really thought about everything and knows the world.

2. Foreshadowing. Leave me CRUMBS.

3.) spice. - I want a full romance that doesn’t take away from the world or plot. I want BOTH. give me war and Or- *cough cough* moving on…

4. Plot. I want a fully rounded and detailed story.

The Witch Collector HITS ALL OF THESE FOR ME.

Thus - 5⭐️
It’s has SPICE. And the second one is.

I just finished my reread.
TWC is one of my favorite reads from 2021, and it has almost everything someone could want in a Fantasy. Found Family, Forced Proximity, Unique magic & World building, a little spice, and a strong willed Female Main Character.
Raina is mute and, since magic is linked to language, she has had to teach herself how to use sign language to allow herself to have access to her magic. I loved that Raina never complains about the challenge and instead meets it head on.
The Witch Collector is book 1 in a Fantasy Romance series and the author is one of the sweetest people. I highly recommend those who read fantasy or who are interested in getting into fantasy to read this book & joining Charissa’s Facebook group.

Short Blurb:
Raina Bloodgood has hated the Witch Collector since he stole her sister from her, 8 years ago. When her plans to murder him and save her sister get flipped on their head, she has to find a way to trust Alexus and her instincts to save the empire.

I feel so lucky to have been able to read the eARC of this book.
The Witch Collector is the first time I read a book where the main character is mute and has to sign to talk, and it was a surprisingly refreshing change. Raina is stubborn and it was so fun to watch her growth.
Not surprising, the author gives an amazing counterpart to Raina in Alexus. I cannot wait to read more about him and Raina’s journey together.
This is a slow burn with some teasing that ends exactly the way I always hope for. I can’t stop telling my husband who doesn’t read, all about this book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys the fantasy genre.
I will be impatiently awaiting book 2… dreaming of Alexus the entire time.

It took a bit to get into this, setting up the world and the magic system. But I really enjoyed this story and am excited to continue this series.
