“Stacy can choke on store-bought sugar cookies like the rest of us. Why's he even bringing them? They're dentists. They should be eating celery.”

WARNING: Guess what? It's unpopular opinion time again!!

I had such a great time reading Twice Shy last year, and I've been meaning to read more of her books ever since. I decided to turn to her debut You Deserve Each Other next, because I do enjoy a good enemy-to-lover romance and the premise sounded like so much fun... But sadly it just wasn't ment to be in the end. Honestly, this book made me. SO. ANGRY. It's been a long time since I despised a main character this much, but Naomi definitely wins the prize here. Self-centered, immature, vindicative, mean and simply despicable; I honestly could not find one thing I liked about her. I only started to hate her more and more with each page, and Nicholas was no picnic either. He is basically a mommy boy who still does everything she demands of him even though he is in his thirties. Healthy relationship much? Plus he is just as bad with him returning Naomi's bad behavior. Oh yes, the two definitely deserve each other after all, and not in a good way. Basically, Naomi has been lying to Nicholas from the very beginning of their relationship, then gets mad when things aren't going her way... Nevermind the fact that she doesn't exactly stand up for herself in the beginning either. The miscommunication trope seems to be a big part of the plot, but I didn't like how it was developed and it was mostly Naomi refusing to communicate properly or accept her faults. Sure, the second half did have some redeeming moments, but for me it was too little too late and I was already actively hating the story too much by then to be swayed by it. I confess that I started skimreading sooner than later, and I kind of wish I had just DNFed it instead... Oh yes, it's easy to say that You Deserve Each Other and me most definitely didn't get along.

Overall I appreciated this book. It wasn't your typical contemporary romance. I thought the pacing was good, and the idea was well executed.

It's missing some little spark, an emotional release of some kind, that keeps this book from being perfect. Would have loved to dive a little more into Naomi's family life as well. Otherwise, SO GOOD.

I enjoyed this one! I really like how it didn't start with the leads not knowing each other at all or being acquaintances, rather they know certain versions of each other that they don't like. It's quite a beautiful story about the importance of perspective and communication in a relationship. I liked the concept of two people who are supposed to love each other but don't taking the time to get to know each other again during a tough time when their relationship is in the spotlight.
SpoilerI loved that they got married at the end, still, and it wasn't a more open ending like "They'll get married eventually" or "They're taking it slow for now" but that's a personal opinion. Another personal preference of mine is that there's more of a resolution in books than there was in this. Like, their impromptu wedding is the last page, but I wish there was more of their friends actually coming to realize how much they love each other through dialogue or something. Like, they all go out for dinner after and Brandy and Leon have never seen her so in love with Nicholas so they're surprised. I also really really wish the book showed Zach realizing that Naomi has fully fallen in love with Nicholas at the end. If you're reading this spoiler section before reading the book, Brandy, Leon, and Zach are Naomi's work friends except Zach is kind of a dick, especially to Nicholas at the beginning. Brandy and Leon don't like Nicholas because it's clear Naomi doesn't like him at the start, but they come around. There's another work-friend character named Melissa but the author includes her enough for me to be satisfied with what Melissa got.
The sex parts were pretty brief and inexplicit if that's something you care to know about. All in all, I say it's mostly what you'd expect going into it, so if that's exactly what you're looking for, then definitely read it.

this is an interesting book.

i was going to dnf this, for the first half was not it. the lack of communication made me so frustrated, and the gaslighting every ‘banter,’ showcases a toxic relationship. i was confused on why people liked this, and why they aspire to have a relationship like them.

however, when i got to the second half, i was stupidly smiling. it definitely picked up in that part, and i was very intrigued with what i was reading.

i wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who despises the miscommunication trope. it was a challenge to pass through it for me as well.

OH MY GOSH I hated these people so much in the first half of the book because WTF why are you not talking to each other??!!! If you hate being with someone so much I’m pretty sure you’re supposed to leave. The second half was pretty freaking cute though and I really liked them there so 2.5 half stars but GEEZ I seriously was not digging that first half I don’t think I would have finished this book if it was not in audiobook format.

2,5 stars but I put 2 stars because this rating needs to go down because this book was meh. I really really REALLY loved the second half and if the first had been even a little more like it I probably would’ve given this book 4 stars. I just did not and don’t think I will ever get why Naomi acted like she did and same with Nicholas it didn’t seem like something two thirty year olds would do and LITERALLY EVERY PROBLEM could have been fixed with a quick conversation (which I know I am correct about because it happened in the second half)

Oh this book was somewhat complicated! At first, I couldn’t warm up to both characters; I simply couldn’t understand how someone could treat another person like that.
Once they moved into the new house, I learned to like them both and got an explanation for the way they are. The ending then felt a bit rushed. This book was a rollercoaster for me.
