I picked up this book because I kept seeing the Henry Kissinger quote. I miss Anthony Bourdain. His joy and excitement (and dread!) on the page is approachable and real and raw.

Interesting. I wish I could have gone on every one of Bourdain's travels in this book.
His cynicism comes through. It makes him endearingly authentic but can be a bit depressing too.
I especially liked his descriptions of Vietnam and Scotland.

“When is food magic? What are the common denominators? Certainly, when food is the result of a brilliant and obsessive personal vision, it can take on mystical, magical aspects.”

I feel like I can better appreciate the connections that locals have with their food, and the lengths that inspired chefs go to to capture it in their dishes. He went a little too mean on vegetarians at some points, tho.

Every bit as good and as readable as Kitchen Confidential. No doubt about it, this guy can write.
each adventure puts you smack in the middle of whatever is going on, and throws in the menu of the day, night, trip, situation, again whatever......
very enjoyable read.
