This book was awesome. The only thing I didn't like was everything that went on with Shane even though he couldn't help it, but at least it ends well.
SpoilerWas anyone else dissapointed with the fight with Bishop, and the fact that everyone should be scared he's out but he barely shows up in the book at all? I mean, I was expecting some huge showdown with all the vamps and someone getting seriously injured. But all we got was, like, two pages of minimal action. Sure Claire got in a nice shot(go Claire!), but other than that Myrnin just shot him with the silver dust, let him sizzle and poof! he's gone! Personally I wish she had done more with that last scene. Also, I can't wait for Michael and Eve to get married!!! <3
Can't wait for the next book!!

2 stars.
My least favourite of the series. Shane and Claire's relationship was very toxic and abusive, and they should have broken up. Claire staying with him and forgiving him so quickly wasn't a good message to send to the reader (teen audience)
Evidence attached here in how it was toxic and abusive:
Spoilergaslighting Claire, physically assaulted Claire, degraded and humiliated Claire. Shane also physically assaulted Michael and Eve. Shane was glamoured, but a lot of his toxic thoughts were already there. It was just amplified and Shane had acknowledged he was self aware most of the time.

I found this book overall boring. There was a lot of dialogue focused hatred and rage towards vampires-none of this was exactly new information, because as the reader we have been told so many times about the human-vampire divide since book 1.
There was also a significant amount of text in Shane's POV about him reflecting on his childhood and adolescence, and how he cant trust vampires. Again, not feeling like I was learning anything new as we learned a lot about Shane's childhood in the previous books already. And Shane not trusting Michael because he's a vampire is so overdone and repetitive.

Overall, not the best and would recommend this to be skipped.

grrrr.... now I know for a fact, people who are Shane-lovers, will most likely dislike this book. And I don't blame them. Rachel Caine changed him in this book, I wont say to what but I'm pretty sure you can guess. Now me, I wasn't very affected. I never liked Shane and Claire's relationship.. I don't know why but Shane always .. bugged me. So the Shane-lovers are going to hate this book but...... the Myrnin-lovers.. LIKE MYSELF :D will absolutely love it :) there is one disappointing part.. like when he didn't kiss Claire, but all in good time I'm guessing >:) Those two will have to get to together and I can even bet that Caine is writing it now.. I hope.. hehe. Basically, this book is just about how there are issues with Shane and other stuff occurs, it is a little slow-paced, so please be wary of that but other than that, it's still a fantastic instalment towards the series.

Clair gets a call from MIT. Shane joins a fit club. Bishop is back. Amelie nearly gets blown up. Myrnin helps out. Michael and Shane have a grudge match.

There was one tinesy tiny quibble and that was where Glory came from. They talk about some party but its really vague and never really explained. Just a little irritating.

It's more like a 2.5, but because I still love a few characters, I'll round up.

Really liked it, but it seemed a bit strung out/far fetched. I hope that the rest don't go downhill , as this one seems to indicate. But still, CLAIRE AND SHANE! Yayness!

Shane, you're an idiot. That is all.
