Not rating this one because I genuinely could not see past all of the "of the time" issues to evaluate the story on its own merits. The sexism was abundant, and the racism was even worse. And the dialogue was awkward at best.
SpoilerLike undermining the emotional climax of the book during Tinker Bell's death by having her mutter "you silly ass" one more time.
Genuinely, skip the book and just enjoy the adaptations.

I don't know what it is about me wanting to read classics this year but here we are.

This has always been one of my favorite Disney movies so, when I saw this edition at Barnes and Noble, I knew that I had to have it. Reading this as an adult takes a bit of joy out of it though.

This is one of my top five books. Beautifully written. Wonderful.

"...and thus it will go on, so long as children are gay and innocent and heartless."

More than just a children's story, this is a reflection on the innocence of youth, with both the cruelty and beauty that that entails. The literary Peter Pan is far more sinister and elusive than the Disney version--worth a read for that insight alone.
