I am floored by how much I loved these essays. The heart and comedy and devastation of the queer experience exists in perfect balance. I want to print out the lesbian canon list and tape it to my bedroom walls like a psycho.

Such a fun audiobook read by the author! A must read for queers who grew up in the 2000s.

I did not enjoy this book. I am really not sure who it was written for. The author spends a majority of the time speaking as the authoritative voice on the intersection of pop culture and lesbians. Maybe, if that was a middle class, white, cisgender, American lens.  The only parts I liked were when she shared her own experiences rather than trying to write the experiences of all queer women. It was very slow paced, I think the best essay is the letter to herself. Had she published a memoir maybe I could be more forgiving, but this was advertised as essays on pop culture and lesbian culture - and we ended up with a 7 1/2 page listical of “lesbian canon”
