Somehow this whole book felt like one long prolog to a bigger story. Nothing really happened plotwise and considering how the romance was very much on the instalove side of things, this book also didn’t really take a lot of time to give characters time to have deep conversations and really get to know each other.
I did enjoy the interesting political conflicts that were created and the hints to magical powers we got glimpses of.
The writing style was nice and engaging, that it was easy and engaging to just keep on reading.
Overall I’m just whelmed by this book’s story but I did enjoy reading it.

I actually kind of enjoyed this book, but refuse to give it more stars because they fall in love after he rapes her.
Also withholding affection to maintain the purity of the person you supposedly love is not cute or romantic, it's creepy and controlling - they get to make their own decisions about their bodies and purity.

Teilweise muss ich gestehen, dass ich die Prämisse etwas sehr verückt und verstörend. Dennoch waren die Charaktere sehr interessant und ich fand es spannend mehr über sie herausfinden. Im Gegensatz zum Hauptcharakter ist es mir nicht gelungen nur ein wenig über die vielen Frauen hinwegzusehen, die ermordet wurden. Deswegen konnte ich die "Liebesgeschichte" nicht so wirklich genießen. Trotzdem will ich unbedingt wissen wie es weiter geht.

I rate books based on delivery of what was promised. I do not require High Literature from teen romances. Therefore, I'd be perfectly happy if this had admitted to itself that it was arabic twilight. Because it is. And it didn't.
If I hadn't bought the ebook I wouldn't have passed the 20% mark because it was so unbelievably nonsense!! The girl keep repeating that she wants to kill the caliph but not for a second I believed she actually wanted to. She didn't have a plan, she didn't hate him, and the narrative tries too hard to make it seem like she's this witty mastermind.
It takes 60% of the book for the plot to start. And once it does it's fun in a very twilight way: it's predictable and quite tacky, but the characters get charming enough that you roll with it. BUT IT TAKES 250 PAGES TO GET THERE. I'd rate the last 150 about 4 stars, because indeed delivered what I expected (and I know I would've enjoyed as a teen, which is the point), but I cannot ignore that this book stalled itself for the most part.
(I'll give to the author that the scents, colors and foods descriptions are very beautiful and lively, but pretty words a story does not make)
