I try not to take 5 star reviews lightly, but this book was honestly great!  I won’t lie, I was a bit hesitant at first, I think due to this book being in a more YA genre, but omg reading it was super worth it.  For a story about a storyteller, the storytelling in this book is just as exquisite as Shahrzad’s.  Immediately after finishing it I placed a hold at my library for the second book because I need it now!

Felt like it moved too fast. So many moving points, but it felt like the plot were moving in circles. I didn't really like the main couple. LOVED the other couple and their story!

Really gross set up - like an enemies to lovers situation but he's a murderer and rapist? Could not abide by the story line or characters, really yucky.

I was really hoping that there would be a greater focus on the "Thousand and One Nights" retelling aspect of this book. I did enjoy this as a YA Fantasy novel, but felt that it was more a classic storyline, rather than a retelling. I liked the main character but felt that the love interests and their storylines were not incredibly compelling. I'm definitely going to read the next one, but I'm more impressed with the main plot than the romance subplot.

This is very fun, and I'm excited to read the second book in the series. Shahrzad is strong and conflicted, and the story does a really interesting process of unfolding.

It's an okay superficial read, but considering the author's background the story feels appropriative at times and rather oddly unpleasant due to it.
