- i just love everything about john irving's writing
- the scope! the wacky-but-lovable characters! the bears!
- this one in particular really resonated with me on a personal level in a few different ways
- made me cry many many times!
- i think if i have any complaints it's just that after having read a few of his other works, some of the ivring-tropes can feel repetitive (bears, vienna, teacher's kid at a new england prep school, wrestling/lifting)
- at the beginning i thought it was going to be more of a problem than it was tho and it didn't wind up bothering me

I thought The Hotel New Hampshire was difficult to get through in parts and I wouldn't say that it's aged well, but overall, I enjoyed it. I though characters were engaging and they felt alive, but I found that the ending was a little unsatisfying and anticlimactic. I felt the same way about A Prayer for Owen Meaney as well, so maybe John Irving's structure just doesn't do it for me. Overall though, I enjoyed it!
