I think this book really gives you a look at the “nazi-time” from a different perspective.
I was able to immerse myself in the story, and it was really scary and weird, but through that, that I really could “feel” the story I also learned something from it. And I think that this book is a really good book for every history freak who wants to learn about the 2WW through a other perspective, but also for people who wants to read a life like story which is really exciting and stirring.

This is quite fast pace book to read. And also interesting as it is tackling the Nazism movement. Recreating the movement in class with the rules "Strength through discipline, community and action" at first bring a positive feedback to the student. But it become unstoppable when the other students from other classes start involving and some obsessed with it. It become escalated when the violence ensue. So far, I read this in one setting, as I say earlier it fast pace read but I quite thought the ending is quite rush even if it based on true events. It is still a good read if you like a quick read.

Very quick read. Only read it because it was on a banned books list. Can't see why it would be banned, nothing in it is horrifying other than showing how easy and quickly facism can be adopted by the masses.

A good story with a clear message, but ultimately disappoints with its weak ending.

I had to read this book for a class around 3 years ago. I didn’t like the teacher or the class so I thought maybe my BURNING HATRED for this book would die down. 3 years later and I still dislike it. The book is based on a high school in Palo Alto (the next town over from me) and it does a terrible job of recreating the events that happened. The writing is childish at best and the plot leaves much to be desired.
The book has been defended to me with the following point: “It teaches kids about the Holocaust.” No. Just no. There are so many beautifully written books at the middle grade level that can teach kids about the horrors of the past accurately.
If you want to teach young readers about the power of facism, WW2, or the holocaust I would consider reading The Diary of Amber Frank or Number the Stars by Lois Lowry.
