I usually don't leave reviews BUT this one...BABY! We have to talk about it. LOL.

In the beginning of reading it, I was really enjoying it. I had a strong feeling of "okay, where are we going with this". It seems like other than his green eyes, she wasn't even initially attracted to Stephen, and yet, she was able to fall for him really hard anyway.

made it so much worse that we had his perspective as well, because we could tell for the majority of the story he was not even thinking about her.

I was all set to give this book a solid 3 stars.

The only thing that changed it to 4 stars was the enormous growth that Lucy made in the last 2 chapters.
It seemed like that growth was going to come earlier in the story but NOPE, it did not last.

I loved that the book did touch on mental health and the struggles that Lucy had with it. I personally think that with her lack of empathy for other characters it was more than just the one mentioned that she should have been diagnosed with.

Overall, I hated everyone BUT the book was pretty good. It was watching a train wreck. Painful to keep watching/reading but I was unable to look away/put the book down.

Great job, Carola Lovering. I hated the book but that's what also made me love it.

Poignant and devastating, Lucy’s coming of age story is one of tragedy and disappointment. She struggles to build positive relationships through the fog of her depression, uses drugs to cope, and makes life decisions based on the whims of a boy. Understanding her past is the key to freeing herself in the future.

Woof. I listened to this via audiobook, and partially because of the show on Hulu. I wanted to compare the two; and also I just wanted to know how the story ultimately unfolded. So came here for the spoilers and finished it because of the chaotic drama. This book is filled with bright neon RED flags. It’s really not a great book, and I did not find it enjoyable, but I am here for the messy people.

I read this once in 2018 or 2017, right on the heels of a really toxic relationship and i remember it being so eye opening and helpful (and also a huge reason for me being obsessed with Stevie Nicks) and i had to re-read it now since my summer reading-pile just emptied out.

It’s still a really good book, and a touchy subject for me, but the characters doesn’t feel the same and it wasn’t that big of a reading experience this time around - but it brought up a lot of (bad…) memories and it helped me see how much i’ve moved on. I really recommend reading this if you’ve ever been in a toxic relationship, especially in your late teens/early twenties! Not every partner in one of those types of relationships is an actual psychopath, BUT… it just resonates on a lot of levels, being with someone who just isn’t as in love/values you as you value them and them still being with you when it suits them.

OH WELL i’m rambling, but do read this! Emotional, truly.
