I received this book as an advanced reader's copy from NetGalley in return for an honest review.

This book by Jenny Milchman is whirlwind of action, without leaving a single dull moment. It felt like the newly wed couple, honeymooning to the Adirondacks, continues to deal with one disaster after another. As you progress through the story you can see how this affects each of them individually as well as their relationship with each other. Their personalities and dynamics continue to change and grow with Nat, the narrator, providing good insight into her own experiences.

For the beginning half of the book I was conflicted about how I felt towards it. It kept me reading and felt very interesting but the constant disasters and life-threatening situations seemed somewhat too much. However, I also recognize that this is the exact reasons people may have liked the book. There were some situations and occurrences that seemed unlikely and took me away from the plot a little bit. However, overall, I enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys outdoorsy activities or has a trip planned as well as anyone who loves a book that never stops with the action and can be quite a page turner. I look forward to other books by this author that hopefully also explore settings and situations other books may not be daring enough to explore.

Jenny Milchman has a knack for coming up with intriguing, unique plots and creepy, scary bad guys who also have depth and personality and are not just stereotypes or cardboard cutouts.

I was a bit skeptical about the plot premise--newlyweds setting off on a wilderness adventure with absolutely no training or preparation whatsoever except renting the equipment and getting a few minutes of advice from a guide. BUT--then we find out the "hidden" reason for the trip and the premise instantly becomes believable.

Milchman does an excellent job of showing their trials, travails, and she gives is an intimate feel for what it's like to be lost and alone in the wilderness. She's a psychotherapist by training and is able to show us multiple layers of the main characters, which makes it easier to buy into their choices and to understand their strengths and weaknesses. If you're a fan of Milchman, you won't be disappointed.

More of a 2.5 because I was compelled to finish it but it took forever to read and while I wanted to find out what happened I was annoyed by most of this book. I feel like there were parts of good ideas here but none of them were perfect and all together it was just TOO MUCH.

Did we really need to have the drug deal? Couldn't they just be a happy couple who ran into trouble because of bad navigating? Hard to root for the couple when the husband is a creep who all of her friends hate and who we were made not to like for the whole first section of the book. Why bother with the whole subplot with the annoying teenaged niece and her friending his creepy 30 something friends on FB? Who cares about her sister's troubled marriage? And then I thought maybe we were getting something interesting once the cops and the search & rescue people got involved...sort of seeing the drama from the victim and the rescue POV but that was a bit of a red herring too. And then we have our bad guy.....that was just weird-o-rama for a million reasons.

(Purchased because I like the outdoors and mysteries in the outdoors and this author did an appearance at my local bookshop. I didn't see her speak but I still like to buy books of authors who come to the store.)

Newlyweds Natalie and Doug decide to honeymoon in the Adirondacks. Meanwhile an unsavory man has been living in the forest. The couple gets lost along their trip. The story is about the interaction between the couple and the man living in the forest. I would describe this as a thriller. There are many unexpected events in the story.

I really enjoyed that the book was written from the perspective of three characters you can tell one of them was the main but I appreciate that it’s switched to give other perspectives made it a lot more interesting and insightful plus it keeps a longer book interesting because it doesn’t have the same narrative tone over and over again I also appreciate that the author waited until the very end to bring all three main characters together it was a very well executed story no holes in the plot with a great conclusion definitely an enjoyable read and some thing that I would recommend to others who like this genre.

Weellll, nope. This took me far too long to read, I didn't feel the stakes, I felt like nothing happened, and while it was intriguing, it also bored me. It was a strange one
