This is one of my favourite Christie books I've read in a while! I honestly think having the book not focused on Poirot or Miss Marple made the book better. It it wasn't tripping over itself to shoehorn in the detective, and we weren't constantly missing crucial information because the detective was withholding it. I liked Emily and thought she was a fun character to have doing the bulk of the investigation. I also just liked how the story came together - while it was a classic big reveal like Christie normally opts for, it felt a lot less forced than some of the others.

This is definitely a fun and worthwhile read, whether or not you normally like Christie's style.

Not much chance of guessing this one much before the end, but enjoyable nonetheless! Liked the premise a lot.

This was a pretty good stand-alone novel from Agatha Christie that had some similar vibes to one of her future Hercule Poirot novels. I did miss not having Poirot or Marple in the story, but I liked Emily’s role as an amateur sleuth. This was definitely not one of my favorites from Christie and she has written plenty of better stand alone novels but I’m glad I read it. It was more of a spooky book and perfect for the month of October.

Kind of boring. The characters are very underdeveloped. Didn't feel attached to any character. The ending felt too unrealistic from human characterisation.
