The fluidity and transitoriness of summer is perfectly demonstrated in this story. How everything feels short-lived and trivial, while at the same time molding everything you are and going to be. Everything it's monumental, then summer ends, you back to your routine, and you may not even know what happened to the people you just met and where you're world for those days or weeks.

being a teen girl lacking proper adult supervision is tough and this book does a great job of picturing it.

The story of two friends at their summer cottages, swimming, watching scary movies, and visiting the local corner store for their rentals. Also dealing with the family issues that arise. A quick read. Not my favorite, but might be to someone looking for a quick 'sad' vacation summery realistic fiction read.

Entretenido.

dnf @ pg. 170
the story is just lacking for me. the characters seem too childish for me, maybe bc of the difference in age between me and them but idk. seems like there’s no real plot here and it had me rolling my eyes too much lmao. not gonna rate it bc i feel like I didn’t get far enough so I’ll just mark it as DNF and want to read (even though i DONT want to read it).

I don't think this graphic novel did anything really revolutionary for me. The art was nice and the story was intriguing, but I didn't leave it feeling any sort of way. I think Mariko and Jillian Tamaki aimed to show the perspective of a young girl, growing and changing through one summer, and I think they achieved that. Rose and Windy both felt like children I have met in my real life, but maybe a slight bit more annoying. The Tamaki's really showed how children their age would deal with big events in their life. The true to life style in my mind did come at a slight detriment to the story. I was not gripped. I felt like I kept waiting for more to be said or a conversation to be had between the children and the adults to help explain the big events, or just some sort of making sense of the world within the graphic novel. Instead, it kind of felt like it just ended. I didn't really take anything away from it and left feeling underwhelmed. I think the art styles of the beaches, intimate moments, and night skies were beautiful but once again nothing where I got lost in the art. I don't think this was a bad book as the ability to write something that felt very realistic is impressive. I just really have nothing amazing to say about it. Read it if you want, but in my opinion don't expect anything ground-breaking.

Minor: Suicide attempt, Pregnancy, and Miscarriage

Was slightly disappointed with this book, read that it had good queer rep and all we got was a queer side character
