Need more of this series!!

I love this book. I wish I heard about it sooner! I love Greek mythology, and read as many fantasy books that involve Greek mythology, it's always so interesting. I learn so many new things, and never get tried of it. The last one I read was Hades getting married to someone new instead of being married to Persephone.

Good and quick

Couldn’t put this book down but didn’t want to finish it too fast. Absolutely easy and fun read. Loved the story line

Unfortunately I could not finish this book. I tried and tried. I just kept drifting off and getting bored. I can’t pinpoint exactly why though. I felt like I had read the story before, but this was a very less interesting version? It was odd. I rarely can’t finish a book.

"The most common way people give up their power is by believing they have none.”

This book was such an emotional roller coaster!
The mystery surrounding Therese's parents deaths had me hooked through out, and I loved reading about the different Greek Mythologies! I thought it was great that the author also included a variety of different Greek gods/goddesses (such as the Furies), rather then simply sticking to the main Olympians.

Therese was by my far my favourite character! I loved how compassionate she was towards animals, and her lucid dreams were so much fun to read about.

I'd recommend this book to ya fans and younger readers

I'm a sucker for Greek mythology, and loved the interaction with the gods and the quests. But this still suffers from the YA plague - main female character that is special yet feels she is too plain, main male character falls for her, and we keep being reminded over and over how gorgeous he is.

This is a great book for lovers of mythology. I always enjoy a well written story that brings the old gods and goddesses of any mythology back to life in modern times. Eva Pohler held true to the mythology of the Greek gods and goddesses through the story, which was an added bonus as well. Thanatos is the god of death, he guides the souls to the ferryman to ensure they enter his father's Underworld. While he may not be happy, he is at least content and understanding of how important his duty is. Until Therese's spitit visits him while she is in a coma after a tragic car accident takes the lives of her parents (which is an amazing little mystery/sidestory that helps to tie it all together perfectly). He is fascinated by this mortal who shows no fear of him. He is determined to make her his queen, but he does not want to follow in the path of his father, Hades, and use trickery. Instead he appears on the mortal plane ready to win her over. But some of the gods disagree with his choice and are set to stop him, while others think it's just grand and will do anything to help them out. - See more at: http://hotofftheshelves.blogspot.com/2013/07/book-tour-and-giveaway-gatekeepers-sons.html#sthash.4VW17nWP.dpuf

Good quick read

It was good to read some paranormal something with a fresh twist. I read it in a day, and while it wasn't something that I read from start to finish without setting down, it was a good diversion from reality.

I can see why I loved this book when I was younger, but it is a little different reading it when I’m a little older. I liked the new perspective on Greek mythology, especially Thanatos who is a less seen god. I also appreciated the backdrop of the mystery. Part of me felt like the love story overtook the mourning, causing the MC to feel a little flat. Overall, this is a fun, clean read and I will probably read the rest of the series

Ah, the just Greek gods! A magical, nice, easy, innocent enough story. Therese came across as a nice enough girl who loves all things nature and is compassionate.

I was rather disappointed by the ending of this book but then again, if it had ended differently, there would hardly be a sequel. And reading book 2 is exactly what I am going to do...
I found the descriptions quite good as well, they didn't bore me and yet were exstensive enough to give a nice mental picture.

I was very very happy for finally reading a book that knows the correct term is "Hear! Hear!" instead of "Here! Here!".. Seriously, kudos!

This was a free book from amazon. When I got it I thought it would be a fun book with mythology. There was never a moment of connect with the story for me. I did not get why Than even liked Therese. There was a lot of back and forth as well as juvenile plot devices. I read this a few weeks ago and don't care about this book anymore so here are a few quotes that helpfully show why I didn't like this book.

After leaving Therese safely at her door, Than went to her room and, in invisible mode, conversed with the hamster and the tortoise.

Than, used to being honest for so many centuries, could not find it in his heart to lie. He glanced at Alecto, unsure if he wanted her to hear, but went on and said, “I love her, but I’m having second thoughts about teaching her to love me.” Hades lifted a brow. “You find her unworthy?” “No. Just the opposite.” “I find that insulting and despicable. Don’t weary me this way.” Than stood up. “You don’t understand me because I can hardly explain myself. What I’m trying to say is that she loves the Upperworld and its inhabitants more than most humans, and I worry I would make her into a despondent wife down here.” “There is no other kind of wife down here,” Hades said. “Remember that.”

He put his hands on her waist again and towed her to shallower water, where she could stand, the gentle waves clearing her chin. The water came up to his nipples, and she could see from the look of them that he was cold, too.

“Not just any god, Therese. A god of the Underworld. Even my mother can only handle it six months out of the year. Hades isn’t offering you the same bargain.” “I don’t care. I told you. I want to be with you.” Then she shivered. “Unless you’ve changed your mind.” Maybe he didn’t want to be with her, now that he had a chance to know her and to see that there are other, more beautiful, fish in the sea.

She had hero-worshiped Pete all her life—she’d liked the kind of music he liked, played the sports he played, watched the shows he watched. He was gorgeous, just like his sister, his blond bowl-cut hair framing a strong face and blue eyes. But it had all been a sister-brotherly love, hadn’t it?

Therese knew she should listen to Than and his sisters and stay put, but she was in agony over what might be happening to her pets, especially Clifford, who would have been barking like crazy at the intruders’ approach. Would they have killed her very best friend? She couldn’t wait here for who knew how long. She had to go see for herself. But she didn’t want to endanger Carol and Richard by asking them to drive her home. They would go into her house and directly into danger. The Holts wouldn’t have room for her if they came in Pete’s truck, plus Matthew and Jen were having too much fun. Unless she revealed the true reason she wanted to go, she wouldn’t have their cooperation.

“Hello?” “Oh, good. You’re home.” It was Pete. Disappointment flooded through her. She had hoped it was Than calling to apologize, to explain why he had been so quiet, to tell her he wanted to be with her forever. “Hi. What’s up?” “I talked Jen into letting us tag along with her and Matthew tonight, to the movies. Sound good?” “Um, I don’t know.” Was he asking her out, or was this a group thing? And should she encourage him if Cupid’s arrow was really at work? On the other hand, if Than had changed his mind about her, maybe Pete could be a helpful diversion from the horrible pain in her heart.

Overall it was a letdown for me. I have read a few books that incorporate mythology and it worked a lot better.
