A powerful book that didn't come off as either trauma-porn or as preachy self-help. Dr. Eger's honesty and clarity in recounting her long journey is just a part of her legacy, but it is one that is easy to share and revisit, and that I think will do a lot of good for anyone who reads it.

And this is why I love memoirs. Such a tremendously profound, deeply touching, frightening, infuriating, beautiful book! At times I had to stop as it was so hard to take in the brutal reality of Auschwitz… nonetheless, a powerful book about hope — and who are we to learn more about it from if not people who went through hell? Edith definitely knows a whole lot about finding happiness, as Dubmbledore said, “even in the darkest of times”. Highly recommended!

A powerful, moving memoir that stays with you. First half is an astonishing level of detail about surviving Auschwitz. (She must've re-traumatized herself) Second half is her journey of healing through her work as a clinical psychologist.
