In the spirit of my fantasy football drafts and the season kicking off today, I snuck this one in since I had been waiting for it at the NYPL for a while and WHOMP WHOMP. Super basic like reading a book of things I already knew lol. I appreciate that this was a super short read bc it was not very expansive on the topic.

Really enjoyed the first third or hald of the book, finding the information really interesting and thought provoking, but later chapters felt like rehashing The Sports Discourse™ of the last decade and even as someone in the periphery of sports, found it somewhat platitudinous.

I loved this book! A quick listen that really broke down the ties between sports and capitalism, and how capitalism has ruined professional sports. To be honest, I went into this book thinking it would be like Superfandom or Cultish and talking about the ways that sports fandoms join and interact, and there were some portions on that which were great, but moreso the focus was on how capitalism has made sporting events too expensive for the average person to attend but also average people continue to fund and support these major coporations since they are our only community gatherings and interactions. Honestly as someone who isn't into sports, I think I actually enjoyed this more than a sports fan would, and if anything has encoraged me to become more of a very casual sports fan to enjoy soccer the way the author has begun to. I would absolutely reccomend this book to others!
