Sorely in need of editing for length. I love this topic but couldn't finish this.

Had to give up. I was very interested in the content of this book and wanted to learn more about developing a compassionate mind. The author was recommended to me and I have the utmost respect for his credentials, knowledge and experience. However, I found the book a slog. It was very repetitive and I found it really hard to not out the specific points and theories that were trying to be addressed. Having felt like I had been at it for ages I found I was only half way through the book. When I start skimming and flicking through pages I know it’s probably time to give up. Maybe at some point I will come back and finish but for now, putting this book aside, is the most compassionate thing I can do for myself.

The content and what the book proposes as a new way forward for individuals and society is fantastic and I believe in it. However, he really needs a ruthless editor to make it more readable and less verbose.

Bit of an odd mishmash of theoretical psychology, self-help and a bit of politics thrown in. There were some useful ideas in here and I'm glad I read it, but it was far, far too long.
