this was such a sweet book. i love the main characters so much and i found them so much more relatable than other contemporary romance characters. i really enjoyed the setting of the story.
the only thing that was off-putting about the book was how slow it felt at times. it wasn’t the whole story, there were literally pages of miscommunication and frustration that i felt were not very important. also, gus’s speech at the end about naomi really frustrated me because he basically made it sound like he was ready to give up january for naomi. like even after everything they went through he dtill sounded ready to drop january completely. apart from that, he’s definitely one of my favorite book boyfriends.
would definitely reread again ✅

i love this book so much it has that romcom feeling that i just love. it has a lot of great characters and side characters, which you get to learn a lot about, so it makes it 10 times better. it makes you feel like you’re really there with them and friends with all of them. i love the fact that he fell for her first and how she always thought he thought poorly of her but really he was basically in love with her the whole time and i think the timing that he told her was just perfect and it didn’t feel forced at all over all i loved this book it’s definitely one of my favs and i love her writing style

Dead, philandering parents rarely make an appearance in romance books, and as someone whose own philandering father recently died, I'm not sure this was the right choice for me. Also, I found the main character, January, relentlessly neurotic. Again, I relate, but I have enough hand-wringing and anxiety in my actual life. I read romance for a bit of escape. I think my issues were mostly ones of expectations management. The title is misleading. This is a novel with some romance tucked into it, not a breezy beachy read.
Moderate: Vomit, Medical trauma, Infidelity, Death of parent, and Terminal illness
