This broke my heart three times and put it back together again in the end. ♥️

Had me laughing and crying and in despair when I thought it wasn't ending the way I wanted it to end. I loved this.

Disappointed with this. I was enjoying this a lot at the start, but then.....nothing happened. It was way too slow. It's such a long book (try 531 pages!) for what it's about, so it's no surprise that I didn't finish it, but I wanted to give it a chance. I like Mhairi's writing, her characters are always fun and interesting, but it dragged too much. I kept finding myself putting it down again, picking it back up, and then wanting to read something else. Between reading this, I read two other books so it's definitely not working out for me.
I will continue to read Mhairi's work in the future. Sadly, I just chose to read this during a book hangover. I wanted something different to YA fantasy, and I ended up picking something too long and less eventful. It's not that the story or the characters are bad, not at all! I enjoyed reading about Dahlia's life, and how she's picking herself up after some crap things happen to her. I also like that her hobby of drawing comics (which are actually in the book) is something she wants to do as a career, it's a nice change from someone wanting to be a writer or in fashion. But it's not that she likes drawing comics, it's her alter-ego, and someone she aspires to me. I like that.
I wish I could finish this, but I just have a very short attention span. Don't let this put you off, read it if you have the time and patience to read 531 pages of a girl moving to the city and finding herself, but I didn't.
I do recommend, however, her first book You Had Me At Hello if you want to try Mhairi's books. Such a good story.

3.88/5 stars. While I enjoyed it, this was not my favourite McFarlane book to date. What set her other books apart for me and elevated them from the usual “Romance” genre was the commentary she provided on different social issues, and I found that to be lacking in this book. I am not reading them in the order of their publication dates, so I don’t know if that is a factor.

Very cute ending, and it really had me doubting how it would all tie up. I found the first half of the book very very very slow though. It was also really horrible reading about the cheating and fallout. I felt for her
