This added some more lore to the movie, making me appreciate it more than I originally did. I do like that it shifted prospectives without feeling overbearing.

Did I cry? Absolutely
Does that mean that this book makes up for the movie? No not at all.
Yes the book is very interesting and has some added scenes and dialogue that are really quite sweet. However, I don’t know why I was hoping that the book would give me some closure and it really didn’t. It answered some questions but not all and that is where this book fails (in the same way the movie did).
Despite this, the writing was great. I had never read from Rae Carson before but this was an exceptional read and a really well put together novelization.

While it obviously doesn't fix my major problems with the movie, it did by and large succeed in being better than the movie. The novelization touched on some of the inner feelings and monologues that (obviously) can't come across on screen, and gave more depth and insight into many character decisions that seemed disjointed or inexplicable in the movie. I enjoyed the deeper look at Rey's decisions, in particular (and--this is just me--still did not give two shits about kyle's though it was nice to have more explanation for his about-face). The bonus content of more Lando, more Zorii, and more Finn really helped flesh out the story with some different perspectives and helped them feel less like cameos thrown in for the big actor names.

Overall, it was a stellar novelization with the best balance of movie-bits and extra-bits. Rae Carson did a stunning job of adapting her source material, and I adore her for giving me this better ending to a saga I love with my whole heart.

This was an absolutely fantastic adaptation. There are scenes in this that I wish had been included in the movie, which would've improved the pacing and streamlined the dialogue. Definitely interested in checking out this author's other work.

I have read a lot of the star wars novels, but not usually the movie novelizations, but this one was really well done and the characters really felt like the characters from the movie. There were some interesting additional scenes, dialogue, and inner thoughts.

Bittersweet, the last Star Wars novelization I had left. A wee bit teary-eyed, for sure!

Rae Carson held this the fuck down, though! Such a wonderful storyteller.
