What
Looks at a deep dive into Miriam’s family history, her loves, struggles and adventures. A lot of dedications and descriptions of other people. The writing is easy to understand, but not terribly exciting, but that could be me comparing novels to real life.
On a book full of opinions / perspectives it’s hard to see a clear truth though it was enjoyable taking in at times. Was good to remember that everyone carry’s with their own struggles, demons & issues you could never guess or assume. So it’s wisest to be as nice welcoming and supportive as you can in each interaction. Although ironically I do get the hint that Miriam has a tendency for a blow up quite often at others too.

Favourite bits

When you’re at a disadvantage you can’t do a good audition.
Don’t dismiss me you think I’m a little rolly Polly person, no! You better pay attention

Flipped the tables and handed out brouches for her wealthy Tuscany house to rent out for future, to feel confident and not so needy.
Engage in interviews, take control, make them see you as a person

I found this book boring, lacking substance and actually made me disconnect from the author. It's mostly name dropping with some fun anecdotes.

This memoir is a true reflection of its author.

Her childhood, family, university, and acting stories were equally interesting; it felt very personal when she individually thanked and credited each friend after their story throughout the book. Most of her stories are a good laugh (and shocked me to my core), but others are more solemn and introspective. Her visit to Palestine was a particularly poignant and important account. I also appreciated her discussion around receiving therapy.

Despite this, I found it difficult to keep up with the way she changed between topics or made very brass unfiltered statements with no explanation and then swiftly moved on.
For example, she said that she didn’t think LGBTQ people should come out to people who “can’t cope with it” and soon after the chapter abruptly ends. This was quite a jarring and upsetting statement and I think could have negative effects on some readers.

It’s an intriguing conversational memoir of her experiences of different relationships, from the familial to the over friendly. My personal favourite part was when she said that aging is about getting wiser and kinder.

* If you are unsure about heavy swearing, LOTS of stories of different sexual exploits, and discussions of illness or death this may not be the book for you. *
